Sola Adepetun

Sola Adepetun is a Partner in the Energy and Project Finance Group of the firm, specializing in energy and project finance law issues and particularly in relation to oil and gas development project negotiations and the acquisition and disposal of petroleum exploration and production companies and interests.

With 29 (twenty-nine) years of legal experience, Sola is responsible for advising many international companies on foreign investment laws, corporate establishments and accreditation issues, the Nigerian licensing regime and generally on strategic alliances in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry. He advises on petroleum taxation, industry and general business compliance and commercial matters ancillary to oil and gas corporate activities.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association Section on Energy & Natural Resources Law. He has also been a member of the Oil and Gas Sector Reform Implementation Committee of the National Council of Privatisation, the pioneer board of the African Institute of Petroleum and the news section editorial board of the international energy law and taxation review.

Afolabi Caxton-Martins


Afolabi Caxton-Martins is a partner in the Corporate and Commercial group of the firm, specializing in Mergers & Acquisitions, Business Compliance, Company & Commercial Law, Telecommunications, Banking and Securities Law, and Intellectual Property Law.


He has 27 (twenty- seven) years of experience advising on a wide range of corporate transactional work for numerous multinational corporations and also acts as a consultant to the Commercial Sections of various foreign embassies in Nigeria assisting them in trade and investment promotion and protection.


Afolabi is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FC1Arb) and  a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Institute of Trademark Agents, International Trademark Association, Internationale Pour La Protection De La Propriete Industrielle, Pharmaceutical Trademark Group and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK.

Funke Agbor

Funke Agbor is a partner in the Shipping and Litigation Group of the Firm, specializing in Admiralty law, Shipping & Marine Insurance Law & Litigation, Ship Registration, Cabotage Registration & Compliance, Ship Finance & Securitisation and International Trade Law & Commercial Arbitration.


With 29 (twenty-nine) years  legal experience, she is an integral part of the litigation and arbitration group of the Firm, representing clients on a broad range of commercial transactions before trial and appellate courts all over Nigeria as well as international arbitration.


Funke is a CEDR Mediator and her active participation in the development and formulation of policy in the Nigerian maritime industry has earned her a reputation as an authority in the industry. She is currently the President of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), a Council Member of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria and the Secretary, Nigerian Maritime Law Association (Affiliate of the Comite Maritime International).  She is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Chartered Institute of Arbitration.


Funke has been listed in international directories, including amongst others, as:

Kemi Segun


Kemi Segun is a Partner in the Energy and Project Finance Group of the Firm with profound expertise in energy and project finance matters, corporate/commercial and tax laws, electricity, petroleum law tax law and practice.


With 20 (twenty) years of experience, Kemi acts primarily for oil and gas exploration and production, marketing, gas supply and service companies specifically in oil and gas and related corporate commercial and project finance matters, legal advisory concerns pertaining to petroleum tax law and taxation. She also advises on transactions for the acquisition, management and disposal of petroleum interests/assets under the various petroleum arrangements existing in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Her scope of expertise also extends to the power and financial sectors; she is renowned for her participation in novel ventures in these sectors and in the energy sector in general.


Kemi is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the Global Women Petroleum & Energy Club and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.

Taiwo Afonja


Taiwo Afonja is a partner in the Energy and Project Finance Group, specializing in petroleum law, power, project finance, corporate/commercial law, business compliance and regulatory law.


With over 16 (sixteen) years legal practice experience, Taiwo actively represents several multinational and national clientele on concession acquisitions and licensing, marginal field farm-in transactions, strategic alliances in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, asset divestitures, financing of upstream activities, business establishment and foreign investment law. As an oil and gas industry transaction and regulatory specialist, Taiwo is also responsible for drafting, advising and negotiating industry agreements and business structures and advising on regulatory/compliance issues. Taiwo’s project finance practice includes, advising on financing and security structures, taxation, conduct of due diligence exercises and advising on regulatory issues. Her power practice spans industry regulatory issues and acting for investors in the Nigerian electricity sector.


She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Benedict Unaegbunam


Benedict Unaegbunam is a Partner in the Commercial Law Group, specializing in Company & Commercial Law, Taxation, Business Advisory, Banking & Securities Law and Telecommunications Law.


Ben has 12 (twelve) years of vast experience in providing advise to the Firm’s clients in diverse areas of the law, including taxation, employment issues, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions and security issues arising from project and infrastructure finance transactions.


Amongst others, he has extensive experience advising multinational telecommunications companies in the acquisition of equity interests in Nigeria, advising international lending institutions on the financing of projects in Nigeria and is actively involved in acting for investors in the on-going concessioning of the Lagos Ports, including working as a core member of the team that advised a multinational company in the successful bid for privatisation and concessioning of the largest container terminal facility in Nigeria.


He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
